TL:DR Yes stainless steel drinking straws are safe, if used carefully by adults.
Over 5 trillion pieces of plastic currently litter our oceans. 500 million disposable straws are used each day. Many people have been inspired by campaigns to reduce plastic waste and switch to more sustainable alternatives.
STAINLESS STEEL STRAWS ARE REUSABLE AND RECYCLABLE
Stainless steel straws are durable and can be reused over and over again. This makes them a better choice for the environment in comparison to single-use plastic straws. If these straws ever reach the end of their useful life, stainless steel is the most recycled material on earth.
LOOK FOR PREMIUM QUALITY
Our straws are made of high quality 18/8 stainless steel. This 304 food grade stainless steel is corrosion-resistant. It will not degrade over time leaching a metallic taste into drinks.
BPA FREE STRAWS
Metal straws do not leach Bisphenol A (BPA) into your drinks. BPA is an industrial chemical which has been used in the production of certain plastics and resin since the 1960s. Some scientific research has shown that plastic products made with BPA can leach into food or beverages, with potential impacts on your health. Avoiding products containing BPA is one way of reducing your exposure. All of our products are safe and completely BPA free.
PROTECT YOUR PEARLY WHITES
Help prevent rich coloured drinks, tea, coffee and wine or acidic drinks from staining your teeth by using a straw.
EASY TO CLEAN
Our metal straws are dishwasher safe making them easy to clean and sterilize. Food grade stainless steel won’t rust. We also provide a free cleaning brush for the inside of your straws.
WILL NOT BEND OR BREAK
Our metal straws are rounded at the tips to avoid sharp edges, so they are perfectly safe for use. However, unlike plastic straws, metal straws will not bend or break. It’s important to remember that they are not as flexible as single use plastic straws during use.
DO NOT USE WHILE DISTRACTED
Since they will not bend during use, we advise that metal straws should not be used when walking, driving or operating machinery.
NOT FOR CHILDREN
Having sold the metal straws in the U.S. and Canada from June 2012 to June 2016, in August 2016, the coffee giant Starbucks announced that it had decided to recall 2.8 million metal straws after hearing four reports of children injuring their mouths while drinking from the straws.
In light of this, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission warned consumers that children should not be allowed to handle or use the stainless steel straws because they pose an “injury risk”).
For this reason, we DO NOT encourage children to handle or use our stainless steel straws, even with parental supervision. Paper straws are our recommended alternative for children.
